Sumario:This contribution presents an overview of the research career of Elena Najlis (1939-2018), focusing on her contributions to the study of indigenous languages in Argentina, including descriptive works on specific languages (Abipón, Wichí, Ayoreo, and Selk'nam) as well as typological, areal, and genetic studies. This article is based on her working documents, as well as her CIC file housed in the CONICET repository. The analysis falls within the field of linguistic historiography, focusing on the study of scientific biographies (Kragh, 2017) as an epihistoriographical resource (Swiggers, 2009). The article is organized as follows: the first part shares the theoretical and methodological orientations, followed by a presentation of the documents found, followed by an overview of Najlis' academic work. Finally, an analysis of her main contributions to the knowledge of the indigenous languages of the region is presented.
