These works belong to the so-called “cycle of tyranny” (Molina, 2011). They address historical conflicts related to the Rosas period and the siege of Montevideo. Linked to José Mármol’s Amalia (1850-55), Laurindo Lapuente’s El Herminio de la Nueva Troya (1857) and Virtud y amor hasta la tumba (1858), these noveles engage in dialogue with A. Dumas's chronicle La Nueva Troya (1850) and establish versions of history shaped by liberal ideologemes that drive certain representations of the Eastern space (the Banda Oriental, present-day Uruguay). Drawing on Frye’s framework on the conventions of romance, the analysis highlights how this space is made suitable for the development of republican and civilized subjects. Este trabajo analiza ideologemas liberales en un grupo de novelas escritas por uruguayos y argentinos entre 1850 y 1860. Estas obras pertenecen al llamado “ciclo de la tiranía” (Molina, 2011). En ellas se abordan conflictos históricos relacionados con el periodo rosista y el sitio de Montevideo. Vinculadas con Amalia (1850-55) de José Mármol, El Herminio de la Nueva Troya (1857) y Virtud y amor hasta la tumba (1858), de Laurindo Lapuente, dialogan con la crónica La Nueva Troya (1850) de A. Dumas e instauran versiones de la historia configuradas por ideologemas liberales que pulsan ciertas representaciones del espacio oriental. Además, considerando los niveles de convención del romance (Frye), el análisis se centra en cómo este espacio es adecuado para el desarrollo de sujetos republicanos y civilizados.
