Through a comparative study of Desierto sonoro (2019), by Valeria Luiselli, and Buscar la vida. Crónica de los niños migrantes atrapados en Melilla (2020), by Sabela González and José Bautista, we explore the economic, historical, political, and cultural forces that drive migration, while also foregrounding familial, social, and emotional aspects surrounding child migration, as depicted in the texts. Furthermore, in line with Jelin’s (2002) framework of the social dimensions of memory, we investigate how migrants’ individual memories reflect values, cultural traits, and communal practices that reinforce their sense of belonging. These narratives–marked by their generic hybridity–not only denounce inequality, violence, and indifference faced by their protagonists, but also, in confronting the official archive with traditionally silenced voices, build a counter-narrative that reclaims agency for subjects historically relegated to the margins, echoing Foucault’s ([1969] 2002) concept of the archive. Nuestro análisis se vertebra sobre tres ejes –migración, historia presente e intrahistoria– en dos textos literarios que, en diferentes continentes, abordan las realidades de niños y jóvenes migrantes que se desplazan solos hacia sus lugares de destino. A través de un estudio comparativo entre Desierto sonoro (2019), de Valeria Luiselli, y Buscar la vida. Crónica de los niños migrantes atrapados en Melilla (2020), de Sabela González y José Bautista, examinamos los factores económicos, históricos, políticos y culturales que se constituyen en motores para migrar, a la vez que destacamos aspectos familiares, sociales y emocionales que los textos visibilizan en torno a la migración infantil. Asimismo, en consonancia con los planteamientos de Jelin (2002) sobre los marcos sociales de la memoria, analizamos la presencia en las memorias individuales de los migrantes de valores, rasgos culturales y prácticas comunitarias que refuerzan su sentido de pertenencia al grupo. Estas narrativas, caracterizadas por su hibridez genérica, no solo denuncian las desigualdades, la violencia y la indiferencia que enfrentan sus protagonistas, sino que, al confrontar el archivo oficial con voces tradicionalmente silenciadas, según la noción foucaultiana de archivo (Foucault, [1969] 2002), construyen una contranarrativa que otorga agencia a sujetos históricamente marginados.
