Little read by specialized critics, it has been considered a sentimental and historical-political novel. Focusing on its characterizations of Argentinians and French, its exploration of medical notions (particularly the spirit-matter dichotomy), and its depiction of violence against 'colonos' during the 1893 Santa Fe revolts, the article argues that Flor del aire elucidates the conflictive assimilation process of settlers into local culture and their struggle to legitimize their integration into their new homeland, Argentina. Tras una introducción en donde se presenta a Gabriela de Laperrière de Coni (Pezens, 1861 - Buenos Aires, 1907) y se propone una posible tipología para su obra, este artículo ofrece una lectura de Flor del aire. Novela argentina (en prensa). Escrita originalmente en francés y publicada en París en 1900, Fleur de l´air. Roman argentin permanecía hasta ahora en los archivos, a la espera de una traducción al castellano. Poco leída por la crítica especializada, ha sido considerada una novela sentimental e histórico-política (Pagés Larraya, Pierini). Atendiendo a las representaciones que ofrece sobre la violencia de criollos hacia colonos (que alcanza su punto máximo en las revueltas agrícolas de 1893 en Santa Fe), sobre la corrupción de cierta elite oligárquica enquistada en el poder, sobre los peligros del atavismo y las ventajas de las “mezclas” o “cruzas”, sobre los saberes ocultos en lo supra-sensorial o extra-racional, en este artículo leemos Flor del aire como una novela que, ante todo, construye discursivamente legitimidad en torno al acceso de inmigrantes, colonos y mujeres a espacios hasta entonces privativos de criollos, hombres y terratenientes.
