Over the years, it has incorporated texts that exemplify both the so-called “traditional historical novel” –that is, the archaeological reconstruction of a bygone era– and the so-called “new historical novel,” open to experimentation and the incorporation of new narrative techniques. This journey also includes works that exemplify forms close to historical narrative, such as the political novel and the testimonial, creating a varied corpus valued for its aesthetic quality. The term “fiction” is used because it includes not only novels but also short stories and radio plays, which predominantly textualize the San Martinian heroic deeds, the period of civil wars, and the political unrest of the first decades of the 20th century in Mendoza. La ficción histórica en las letras mendocinas se inicia en 1904, con La ciudad heroica, novela de Rosario Puebla de Godoy, y en su devenir va incorporando una serie de textos que ejemplifican tanto la denominada “novela histórica tradicional”, vale decir, la reconstrucción arqueológica de un tiempo pasado, hasta la considerada “nueva novela histórica”, abierta a la experimentación y a la incorporación de nuevas técnicas narrativas. En ese recorrido no faltan obras que ejemplifican también modalidades próximas al relato histórico, como son la novela política o la testimonial, configurando un corpus variado y valorable por su calidad estética. Se utiliza la denominación de “ficción”, por cuanto se toman en consideración no solo textos novelísticos, sino también cuentos y obras radioteatrales, en los que se textualizan –como temáticas predominantes– la gesta sanmartiniana, el período de las luchas civiles y la agitación política de las primeras décadas del siglo XX en Mendoza.
