The work, framed within literature of migration, fictionalizes the migratory experience of a Syrian family in the context of the war afflicting the country. Sea Prayer (2018) makes use of the symbiosis between verbal language, visual language and design elements typical of picturebooks, the genre in which it is inscribed, to narrate and raise awareness about the vulnerability of migrants, displaced and exiled people, and the role played by memory in such displacement processes. As a starting hypothesis, we suggest that Sea Prayer (2018), as an artistic-aesthetic and cultural artifact, becomes a narrative of memory (Ricoeur, 2002) that aims to preserve collective memory and urges action to protect migrants in contexts of growing vulnerability.
