These male organizations (some within political parties, labor unions, academic settings, gender activism, andcommunity organizations) aim to promote a set of actions designed to engage other men in reflecting on the importance of deconstructing hegemonic masculinities. Although these men recognize “gender” as a social construct, they often fail to grasp the performative dimension of masculinity in their political practices. This article offers a theoretical review and analyzes in-depth interviews with activists who participate in male spacesthat advocate for gender equality.
