Some processes are cyclic, while others are unidirectional. Models are provided for plant succession on sandbanks and in different types of ponds and cul-de-sacs. The culmination of the process appears to be the establishment of the insular forest, which is considered a subclimax, although the possibility of Panicum prionitis tall grassland as the endpoint of plant succession in certain parts of the alluvial plain is also discussed. Este trabajo presenta una descripción de los diferentes aspectos de la dinámica de la vegetación que ocurren en la llanura aluvial del río Paraná. Algunos procesos son cíclicos, mientras que otros son unidireccionales. Se presentan modelos de sucesión vegetal en bancos de arena y en distintos tipos de lagunas y brazos muertos. La culminación del proceso parece ser el establecimiento del bosque insular, considerado un subclímax, aunque también se discute la posibilidad de que el pastizal alto de Panicum prionitis constituya el punto final de la sucesión vegetal en ciertas partes de la llanura aluvial.
