The city of Casilda, located in southern Santa Fe Province, Argentina, faces a problem of dog overpopulation. This study aimed to estimate the relative risk of traumatic injuries (TI) in dogs from Casilda based on socio-environmental differences, and to identify potential risk factors associated with these injuries. A retrospective analytical study was conducted using clinical records of dogs treated at the Hospital de Pequeños y Grandes Animales (HEGyPA) in 2019, along with data from the Casilda municipal census, organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Science (UNR) and the Municipality of Casilda. Three socio-environmental strata were analyzed within the city: E1 (central area), E2 (intermediate area), and E3 (peripheral area). Co-habitation with other animals and roaming behavior were identified as factors associated with TI in the dogs treated at HEGyPA, while castration was found to be a protective factor. In addition to these factors, residents’ perceptions of situations indicative of animal suffering varied according to the socio-environmental stratum. Traumatic Injuries in dogs represent a complex issue that demands a multidisciplinary approach and a perspective that considers socio-environmental.
