However,there is not only a theorization to account for the phenomenonoccurring in the "periphery". Thus, we proposea bibliometric and theoretical study that establisheswhich are the main theories that are being worked onthe urbanization of peripheral spaces in geography. Toachieve this objective, the Scopus and WoS databaseswere used, with which an exploration was carried outfrom Biblioshiny and later Atlas Ti. In general terms,there are large fields from which theoretical reflectionon the problems studied can be situated, with a strongemerging component that comes from the experienceof countries in the global south that make the conceptsused in other areas such as Europe more complex. La transformación de los espacios periféricos de las ciudadesa lo largo del globo es una preocupación contemporáneade los estudios geográficos y de otras disciplinasafines. Sin embargo, no existe una teorización para darcuenta del fenómeno que ocurre en la “periferia”. Por lotanto, se propone un estudio bibliométrico y teórico queestablezca cuáles son las principales teorías que estánsiendo trabajadas en torno de la urbanización de los espaciosperiféricos en geografía. Para conseguir este objetivo,se utilizaron las bases de datos de Scopus y WoS, conlas cuales se efectuó una exploración desde Biblioshiny yposteriormente Atlas Ti. En términos generales, existengrandes campos desde donde se puede situar la reflexiónteórica sobre la problemática estudiada, con un fuertecomponente emergente que proviene de la experienciadesde países del sur global que complejizan los conceptosusados en otras zonas como Europa. No entanto,não existe uma teorização única que dê conta dofenômeno que ocorre na “periferia”. Dessa forma, propõe-se um estudo bibliométrico e teórico para estabelecerquais são as principais teorias que estão sendo trabalhadassobre a urbanização de espaços periféricos nageografia..
