The aim of this study was to evaluate serum protein profile alterations in dogs with CME, to identify potential biomarkers for diagnosis and disease monitoring. Serum samples from eight dogs with a confirmed CME diagnosis through polymerase chain reaction was analyzed. The results of the proteinogram revealed significant alterations in protein fractions. Hypoalbuminemia was observed in seven cases, hypogammaglobulinemia in six, hyperalpha-2 globulinemia in seven, and hyperbeta-globulinemia in two cases. These findings suggest a decrease in hepatic protein synthesis, an altered immune response, and an active inflammatory process. Polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia, identified in two cases, indicate chronic immune system activation. Unlike hypogammaglobulinemia, which was present in six patients, this condition is not a common manifestation of the disease and could be linked to the pathogenic processes of CME, potentiallyincreasing the susceptibility to secondary infections. In conclusion, serum protein profile is a useful tool for evaluating the inflammatory response in CME cases. The observed alterations in protein fractions can serve as biomarkers for disease diagnosis and monitoring. This study provides relevant information for future research aimed at better understanding the disease pathogenesis and developing new diagnostic tools. La ehrlichiosis monocítica canina (EMC), es una enfermedad infecciosa transmitida por garrapatas que desencadena una respuesta inflamatoria aguda en caninos. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar las alteraciones del proteinograma sérico en caninos con EMC, con el fin de identificar posibles biomarcadores para el diagnóstico y seguimiento de la enfermedad. Se analizaron muestras de suero de ocho caninos con diagnóstico confirmado de EMC mediante reacción en cadena de la polimerasa. Los resultados del proteinograma revelaron alteraciones significativas en las fracciones proteicas. Se observó en siete casos hipoalbuminemia, en seis hipogammaglobulinemia, en siete casos hiperalfa-2 globulinemia y en dos casos hiperbeta-globulinemia. Estos hallazgos sugieren una disminución en la síntesis de proteínas hepáticas, una respuesta inmune alterada y un proceso inflamatorio activo. La hipergammaglobulinemia policlonal, identificada en dos casos, sugiere una activación crónica del sistema inmunológico. A diferencia de la hipogammaglobulinemia, que se presentó en seis pacientes, esta condición no es una manifestación común de la enfermedad y podría estar vinculada a los procesos patogénicos de la EMC, además de aumentar la predisposición a infecciones secundarias. En conclusión, el proteinograma sérico es una herramienta útil para evaluar la respuesta inflamatoria en los casos de EMC. Las alteraciones observadas en las fracciones proteicas pueden servir como biomarcadores para el diagnóstico y monitoreo de la enfermedad. Este estudio establece las bases para futuras investigaciones que profundicen en la comprensión de la patogénesis de la enfermedad y en el desarrollo de nuevas herramientas diagnósticas.
