This study explores contemporary Spanish novels that feature this narrative structure, which we refer to as “inverse stories”. The article: 1) characterize these stories within the context of the relationships between literature and childhood and 2) analyze specific examples that illustrate this distinctive narrative approach. ¿Qué ocurre cuando un relato se inicia con una escena extrema como es la muerte de un niño o una niña? ¿Qué forma adquiere la puesta en discurso de ese suceso? ¿De qué manera el hecho narrado en el inicio determina una especial configuración de la trama? Este trabajo busca acercarse a algunas novelas españolas contemporáneas que exhiben esa figuración y que constituyen lo que denominamos relatos inversos. El artículo propone: 1) caracterizar estos relatos en el marco de las relaciones entre literatura e infancia y 2) abordar el análisis de algunos ejemplos que ponen a funcionar esa especial presencia.
