Throughout this article, we inquire about the transformations that these technologies produce both in the functional organization of cities (system of actions), and in their physical-spatial conformation (systems of objects). By relating theoretical contributions from sociology, urban economics and geography, we raise questions regarding the way in which ICTs resignify the relationships between activities and material space. The work provides preliminary considerations for future research focused on the study of the distribution of functions in contemporary city and invites us to dabble into more complex and precise territorial readings of phenomena associated with ICTs such as e-commerce or teleworking. Las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación han cambiado el modo en que realizamos nuestras actividades en la ciudad, dando lugar a nuevos requerimientos espaciales, de localización y movilidad para el desarrollo de estas. A lo largo de este artículo se indaga en torno de las transformaciones que dichas tecnologías producen tanto en la organización funcional de las ciudades (sistema de acciones), como en su conformación material (sistemas de objetos). A partir de relacionar aportes teóricos provenientes de la sociología, economía urbana y geografía se plantean interrogantes respecto de la manera en que las TIC resignifican las relaciones actividad - espacio material. El trabajo aporta consideraciones previas para futuras investigaciones centradas en el estudio de la distribución de funciones en el hecho urbano contemporáneo e invita a incursionar en lecturas territoriales más complejas y precisas de fenómenos asociados a las TIC como el comercio electrónico o el teletrabajo. As tecnologias da informação e da comunicação mudaram o modo como realizamos nossas atividades na cidade, dando lugar a novas exigências espaciais, de localização e mobilidade para desenvolvimento destas. Ao longo desse artigo, indagamos sobre as transformações que essas tecnologias produzem tanto na organização funcional das cidades (sistema de ações), quanto em sua conformação físico-espacial (sistemas de objetos). A partir da relação de aportes teóricos da sociologia, economia urbana e geografia, questiona-se o modo como as TIC ressignificam as relações atividade - espaço material. O texto traz considerações preliminares para futuras investigações centradas no estudo da distribuição de funções na cidade contemporânea e nos convida a explorar leituras territoriais mais complexas e precisas de fenômenos associados às TIC, como o comércio eletrônico ou o teletrabalho.
