The tactics used by actors in the geopolitics of seeds to intervene scientifically and extractively in areas rich in biodiversity in order to privatize and commercialize the products obtained from genetic resources are also detailed. Likewise, it highlights how the ancestral knowledge of indigenous communities in nations such as Colombia has become a form of opposition to intellectual property mechanisms such as patents and plant breeder’s rights. In methodological terms, a mixed approach was used to highlight the deductive conditions provided by documents from primary, secondary and tertiary sources, as well as the statistical results from the review of databases and institutional reports. The main result of this article was to contribute to academic and social discussions about the concept of geopolitics as a way of understanding international dynamics related to access, use and control of seeds. El objetivo de este artículo es conceptualizar y analizar la geopolítica de la biodiversidad y, en particular, la geopolítica de las semillas, describiendo cada uno de los actores que interactúan y compiten entre sí en relación con el acceso, uso y control de los recursos naturales, particularmente en el contexto de las semillas. Se detallan también las tácticas empleadas por los actores de la geopolítica de las semillas para intervenir de manera científica y extractiva en áreas ricas en biodiversidad con el fin de privatizar y comercializar los productos obtenidos de los recursos genéticos. De igual manera, se destaca cómo los conocimientos ancestrales de las comunidades indígenas en naciones como Colombia se han convertido en una forma de oposición a mecanismos de propiedad intelectual como las patentes y los derechos de obtentor. En términos metodológicos, se utilizó un enfoque mixto para resaltar las condiciones deductivas proporcionadas por los documentos de fuentes primarias, secundarias y terciarias, así como los resultados estadísticos de la revisión de bases de datos e informes institucionales. El principal resultado de este artículo fue contribuir a las discusiones académicas y sociales sobre el concepto de geopolítica como una forma de comprender las dinámicas internacionales relacionadas con el acceso, el uso y el control de semillas.
