The objective of this paper is to examine how the catabasis structures Ursula’s journey, in a metaphorical sense, and how it allows her to explore erotism and death. For this analysis, theoretical contributions of Pilar Gónzález Serrano (1999), Jorge Linares Sánchez (2017), Gaston Bachelard (2005; 2014) and Georges Bataille (2019) are considered. They are the starting points for figuring out how this María Negroni’s work fits into the catabasis tradition. El sueño de Úrsula (1998) es una obra polifónica que reelabora la leyenda medieval de Santa Úrsula, quien emprende un fabuloso viaje a Roma acompañada de otras vírgenes y es martirizada a su regreso, en Colonia. Úrsula parte en peregrinación para aplazar la concertación de un matrimonio forzado; sin embargo, este viaje adquiere un sentido particular al asimilarse a un descenso, es decir, a una catábasis. El objetivo de este trabajo es indagar el modo en que la catábasis estructura el viaje en sentido metafórico y permite, al mismo tiempo, la exploración del erotismo y de la muerte. Para este examen, se consideran aportes teóricos de Pilar González Serrano (1999), Jorge Linares Sánchez (2017), Gaston Bachelard (2005; 2014) y Georges Bataille (2019), a partir de los que es posible dilucidar algunos indicios que permiten inscribir esta obra de María Negroni en la tradición de la catábasis.
