The NFPA regulations and the cases of European cities are briefly analyzed. In contrast, the case of the city of Rosario is presented and how the resulting precariousness in water supply makes firefighting dependent on tank trucks doubling the firefighting effort Se presenta la evolución de las operaciones contra incendio desde las primeras brigadas romanas hasta la creación de los cuerpos de bomberos, la evolución de los recursos para la provisión de agua hasta la invención de los hidrantes y cómo la disponibilidad de un suministro permanente da sentido a la operación de autobombas y otro equipamiento moderno. Se analiza someramente la normativa de la NFPA y los casos de ciudades europeas. En contraste se presenta el caso de la ciudad de Rosario y como la precariedad resultante obliga a operaciones de extinción asistidas por cubas duplicando el esfuerzo de los cuerpos de bomberos.
