| Sumario: | Neoplasms of salivary glands are rare tumors with different malignant potential. They account for less than 2% of all human neoplasms and 3 to 4% of head and neck tumors. Their diagnosis is enriched through immunohistochemistry. Based on this background, we investigated the association between the Ki67 (proliferation) and CD34 (angiogenesis) markers and the histological grade of mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC). This immunohistochemical study was conducted on 10 patients selected from a database of salivary tumors. This database was created by our work team in the period 1995-2022. Tumors were classified as low and high proliferation based on the Ki67 labeling index of ≤15% and >30%, respectively. CD34 labeling was assessed as positive (>5 blood vessels marked within the field of view) or negative (<5 blood vessels marked within the field of view) in high and low grade tumors, respectively. We believe that the quantitative expression of the tumor proliferative index is associated with its histological malignancy grade and the varying degree of CD-34 labeling in salivary MEC, factors linked to its prognosis. |
