Based on this background, we investigated the association between the Ki67 (proliferation) and CD34 (angiogenesis) markers and the histological grade of mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC). This immunohistochemical study was conducted on 10 patients selected from a database of salivary tumors. This database was created by our work team in the period 1995-2022. Tumors were classified as low and high proliferation based on the Ki67 labeling index of ≤15% and >30%, respectively. CD34 labeling was assessed as positive (>5 blood vessels marked within the field of view) or negative (<5 blood vessels marked within the field of view) in high and low grade tumors, respectively. We believe that the quantitative expression of the tumor proliferative index is associated with its histological malignancy grade and the varying degree of CD-34 labeling in salivary MEC, factors linked to its prognosis.

Las neoplasias de las glándulas salivales son tumores raros y con diferente potencial maligno. Corresponden a menos del 2% de todas las neoplasias humanas y el 3 a 4% de los tumores de cabeza y cuello. Su diagnóstico se enriquece con la inmunohistoquímica. Basándonos en este antecedente investigamos la asociación entre los marcadores Ki67 (proliferación) y CD34 (angiogénesis) y el grado histológico del carcinoma mucoepidermoide (CME). Este estudio inmunohistoquímico se realizó en casos de 10 pacientes seleccionados de una base de datos de tumores salivales de nuestro equipo de trabajo correspondiente al período 1995-2022. Los tumores se clasificaron como de baja y alta proliferación con un índice de marcación de Ki67 de ≤15% y >30%, respectivamente. La marcación de CD34 se calificó como positiva (>de 5 vasos sanguíneos marcados en el campo de visión) o negativa (<de 5 vasos sanguíneos marcados en el campo de visión) en tumores de alto y bajo grado, respectivamente. Consideramos que la expresión cuantitativa del índice proliferativo tumoral se asocia con su grado histológico de malignidad y el diferente grado de marcación de CD-34 en el CME salival, factores vinculados a su pronóstico. As neoplasias das glândulas salivares são tumores raros com diferentes potenciais malignos; correspondem a menos de 2% de todas as neoplasias humanas e de 3 a 4% dos tumores de cabeça e pescoço. Seu diagnóstico é enriquecido com imuno-histoquímica. Com base nesse histórico, investigamos a associação entre os marcadores Ki67 (proliferação) e CD34 (angiogênese) e o grau histológico do carcinoma mucoepidermóide (CEM). Este estudo imuno-histoquímico foi realizado em casos de 10 pacientes selecionados de um banco de dados de tumores salivares de nossa equipe de trabalho correspondente ao período de 1995-2022. Os tumores foram clasificados como de baixa proliferação e alta proliferação com um índice de marcação Ki67 de ≤15% e >30%, respectivamente. A coloração de CD34 foi classificada como positiva (>5 vasos sanguíneos marcados no campo de visão) ou negativa (<5 vasos sanguíneos marcados no campo de visão) em tumores de alto e baixo grau, respectivamente. Acreditamos que a expressão quantitativa do índice proliferativo tumoral está associada ao seu grau histológico de malignidade e ao diferente grau de marcação de CD-34 nas CTM salivares, fatores ligados ao seu prognóstico.
