Sumario:The objective of this article is the analysis of the aspects that defined the relationship between Paraguay and Brazil since the middle of the last century. The analysis is based on its historical background, the geopolitical framework of the strategy of “Marcha hacia el Oeste” and “Fronteras Vivas”, the Itaipú binational project and the aspect linked to land tenure. The context of the link between the two countries built by authoritarian military regimes in the framework of the Cold War is considered. This bond of dependency of Paraguay towards Brazil has largely determined the Paraguayan economic model in force to this day. It is considered that the change in Brazilian foreign policy could be reflected in a more equitable bilateral relationship.
