Our objective is to investigate the ways in which Salteños and Chaqueños related in a period which continues to be considered as obscure by the historiography due to the scanty documentation available. Most of the sources consulted are located in the Historical Archive and Library of Salta in the Government Fund, which were complemented and compared with published sources. Este artículo analiza las políticas implementadas por el gobierno salteño para vigilar la frontera oriental y el interior del Chaco, a fin de mantener cierta estabilidad con las comunidades indígenas entre 1804 y 1823. Nuestro objetivo es indagar sobre las formas en que se relacionaron salteños y chaqueños en un período que continúa siendo oscuro para la historiografía por la poca documentación disponible. La mayor parte de las fuentes consultadas se encuentran resguardadas en el Archivo y Biblioteca Históricos de Salta en el Fondo de Gobierno, las cuales fueron complementadas y confrontada con fuentes de carácter édito.
