Sumario:This text deals with the legal and political discussions that occurred among the participants of Colombian society, opening a space for the possibility of judgment of the case C-355 in 2006, which partially decriminalized abortion. Fields such as medicine, feminism, religion, and politics produced a series of debates that provided or denied an opening to the legalization of abortion. It has not been a linear process, rather it has been a path of progress and setbacks where the implementation of the sentence was affected by the same time that there was a permanent struggle for the demand of women’s rights and in the requirement of compliance with the law. Religious stances and their involvement in politics were challenged by scientific and legal scrutiny, as well as by the efforts of the feminist movement, breaking through the hegemony of clerical positions against abortion and paving the way for the discourse of women’s rights and public health, as enshrined in the law.
