To understand such uses, I have studied the meaning of “relative” (also used by Anchieta, Aragona and Ruiz de Montoya, the best exponents of the missionary Grammar of Tupi-Guarani) from the grammatical terminology of the Renaissance. This study describes each of the functions performed by the previously mentioned "relatives".
