However, in a neoliberal socioeconomic context, which exalts the recognition of a universal and equal citizenship while ignoring the material inequalities of existence, the claims for the recognition of a particular identity run the risk of appearing functional to it. This manifests a problematic tension in the articulation of demands for cultural recognition and material redistribution within identity politics. In this paper we propose to address this tension starting from the performative theory of gender developed by Judith Butler to think about how power acts in the configuration, agency and resistance of abject subjectivities. In this sense, we will analyze how the performativity of the bodies operates, in what he calls the “politics of the Street” emphasizing the need to establish alliances with those who share the precarious condition, in order to be able to carry out concrete actions of struggle. In this way, we will also rescue issues that emerged from the debate with Nancy Fraser in the 90s, around recognition and redistribution; in order to review the strengths and weaknesses of Butler’s proposal in its critical value. We will conclude this work by affirming that the articulation of demands for difference and equality is not exempt from uncomfortable tensions, but it is necessary in order to cultivate a more democratic and therefore more inclusive politics. En la actualidad, diversos grupos sociales que fueron y son históricamente excluidos del entramado social encuentran bajo la reivindicación de la diferencia espacios abiertos de lucha política. Sin embargo, en un contexto socioeconómico neoliberal, que exalta el reconocimiento de una ciudadanía universal e igualitaria mientras que ignora las desigualdades materiales de existencia, los reclamos por el reconocimiento de una identidad particular corren el riesgo de presentarse funcionales al mismo. Esto manifiesta una tensión problemática en la articulación de demandas de reconocimiento cultural y redistribución material dentro de la política de identidad. En este trabajo nos proponemos abordar esta tensión partiendo de la teoría performativa del género que desarrolla Judith Butler para pensar cómo actúa el poder en la configuración, agencia y resistencia de las subjetividades abyectas. En este sentido, analizaremos cómo opera la performatividad de los cuerpos, en lo que llama la “política de la calle”, enfatizando la necesidad del establecimiento de alianzas con quienes comparten la condición de precariedad, a fin de poder llevar a cabo acciones concretas de lucha. Así también rescataremos cuestiones que se desprenden del debate con Nancy Fraser en la década del 90, en torno al reconocimiento y la redistribución; a fin de revisar los puntos fuertes y débiles de la propuesta de Butler en su valor crítico. Concluiremos este trabajo afirmando que la articulación de demandas por la diferencia y la igualdad no está exenta de tensiones incómodas, pero resulta necesaria a fin de cultivar una política más democrática y por tanto más inclusiva.
