The impossibility of build a penitentiary led to other ways of applying the penalty, that were varied both in their application and in the way they were implemented. For a further deepening it is also considered the political framework which the Province was going through at that time and how the sectoral disputes impacted on the prison issue El presente artículo se referirá sobre el estado de situación de las cárceles en la provincia de Corrientes durante la década de 1870, tomando como referencia Informes oficiales, que incluyen estadísticas y descripciones, y que muestran una aproximación del conocimiento, en aquellos tiempos, de la cuestión. La imposibilidad de construir una Penitenciaría llevó a otros modos de aplicar la pena, que fueron variados tanto en su aplicación como en la forma de implementarse. Para una mayor profundización se considera también el marco político por el cual atravesaba la Provincia en aquella época y cómo impactaron en la cuestión carcelaria, las disputas sectoriales del momento.
