The objective of the article that we now present is to carry out a detailed analysis of the interfix -c-, -ec- that appears in numerous Spanish diminutives, in order to determine its morphological characteristics, as well as the rules or principles that govern its insertion and combinatorial. For this, we have taken as study material the interfixed diminutive formations that are included in the Corpus of Reference of Current Spanish (CREA), although, due to the high number of these, we have decided to limit the analysis to those between 1984 and 2004. Throughout this analysis, the results offered by the empirical data of the corpus are contrasted with the theoretical approaches of the researchers, in order to examine their validity and propose, where appropriate, alternative solutions. El estudio de los interfijos, en general, y más particularmente, de los que entran en la formación de los apreciativos, sitúa al investigador ante uno de los asuntos más complejos y controvertidos de la morfología léxica de nuestro idioma. El objetivo del artículo que ahora presentamos es realizar un análisis en detalle del interfijo -c-, -ec- que aparece en numerosos diminutivos del español, con el fin de determinar sus características morfológicas, así como las reglas o principios que rigen su inserción y combinatoria. Para ello, hemos tomado como material de estudio las formaciones diminutivas interfijadas que se incluyen en el Corpus de Referencia del Español Actual (CREA), si bien, debido al elevado número de estas, hemos decidido limitar el análisis a las comprendidas entre los años 1984 y 2004. A lo largo de este análisis se contrastan los resultados que ofrecen los datos empíricos del corpus con los planteamientos teóricos de los especialistas, con el fin de examinar su validez y proponer, en su caso, soluciones alternativas.
