Polymers that use pesticide formulations can also be considered when looking for more natural alternatives in these processes. The objective of this work was to evaluate the use of natural films that can be used as a replacement for synthetic polymers in the treatment of Zea mays L. (Poaceae) corn seeds. The biopolymers were made from gelatin, starch, maltodextrin and soy protein. The viscosity and stability of the mixtures were evaluated on the one hand, and the germination and yield of the treated seeds on the other hand. The results indicate that the use of natural polymers in the treatment of corn seeds allows to obtain mixtures with adequate viscosity and stability, without affecting the germination or the yield of these seeds. The results obtained are of great importance in the field of seed technology and environmental technologies that seek to reduce the impact that plastics production currently has on the environment. El desarrollo de alternativas sostenibles para la producción agrícola es una necesidad global que ha tomado fuerza debido al impacto negativo producto del empleo masivo de insumos químicos de síntesis. Los polímeros que utilizan las formulaciones de plaguicidas también pueden considerarse al momento de buscar alternativas más naturales en estos procesos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el uso de películas naturales que puedan utilizarse como reemplazo de los polímeros sintéticos en el tratamiento de semillas de maíz Zea mays L. (Poaceae). Los biopolímeros fueron elaborados a base de gelatina, almidón de maíz, maltodextrina y proteína de soja. Se evaluó por un lado la viscosidad y estabilidad de las mezclas, y por otro lado la germinación y el rendimiento de las semillas tratadas. Los resultados indican que el uso de biopolímeros en el tratamiento de semillas de maíz permite obtener mezclas con adecuada viscosidad y estabilidad, sin afectar la germinación ni el rendimiento de estas semillas. Los resultados obtenidos tienen gran importancia en el campo de la tecnología de semillas y tecnologías ambientales que buscan reducir el impacto que tiene actualmente la producción de polímeros sintéticos en el medioambiente.
