Data on the profile were analysed by cluster analysis, and data on perception were explored by Principal Components Analysis. These results allowed grouping all beaches according to variables such as cleanliness, accommodation, infrastructure and services. Users' age and marital status were found to be associated only with certain beaches; married people visited urban and rural beaches, preferring those without infrastructure, while single and young people chose urban beaches with facilities. Contrasting answers regarding environmental beach features were recognised between both municipalities, indicating the success of awareness programs that enhance the beaches' natural values. © 2012 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
