It is shown that the formation of the soluble porphobilinogenase (PBG-ase) fraction is inhibited by cycloheximide indicating its biosyntheses on 80S ribosomes, whereas the formation of the membrane bound chloroplast PBG-ase is chloramphenicol sensitive. Different pH-optima are demonstrated for the two enzymes.
