Histological analysis proves more similarity with cypress (Austrocedrus) than with 'alerce' (Fitzroya). The other four samples were obtained from peat strata interstratified in a 20m thick volcanic ash and diatomaceous layer. Their age varies from 27 900 to 32 600 BP. The peat layers contain some strawberry (Fragaria) seeds.
