Analysis of temporal and spatial relationship between estimated precipitation from TRMM satellite (3B42Rt) and daily average streamflow in the Iguazú River Basin
The aim of this study is to analyse the spatial-temporal relationship between daily precipitation estimated by TRMM satellite Version 3B42RT in Iguazu River Basin and daily average streamflow in the Iguazú and Andresito Ports during the period 2001- 2013. Correlations are made using areal daily prec...

Daily average streamflow Estimated precipitation Iguazú river basin The aim of this study is to analyse the spatial-temporal relationship between daily precipitation estimated by TRMM satellite Version 3B42RT in Iguazu River Basin and daily average streamflow in the Iguazú and Andresito Ports during the period 2001- 2013. Correlations are made using areal daily precipitation estimated in the whole basin, as well as using precipitation estimated in each grid point. In addition, two case studies of Iguazú River floods are analysed, one occurred in June 2013 and the other one in June 2014. Results obtained from the areal precipitation analysis for Iguazú Port show that daily estimated precipitation has better influence in the river streamflow about 5 to 7 days after the precipitation event occurrence, whereas that in Andresito Port the most impact takes place between 2 and 3 days after the precipitation event occurrence. In both cases the impact observed in the streamflow rate change is earlier. In respect of the spatial - temporal relationship, it is found that the daily average streamflow in Iguazú Port is mostly influenced by the estimated precipitation occurred in the middle and upper basin, between 5 and 7 days after precipitation events occurred. On the other hand, the highest correlations that are found in Andresito Port are between 2 and 4 days after the precipitation event occurrence in all the basin area, with maximum values in the upper and middle basin. Moreover, the analysis of the two particular case studies of floods show consistent results compared with the above mentioned.
