Purification and composition of glycoconjugates from Crithidia oncopelti
1. 1. Glycoconjugates were extracted with phenol-water from a symbiont containing strain of Crithidia oncopelti. 2. 2. A glycopeptide and two minor polysaccharides in a ratio of 30:5:1 were purified by subsequent DEAE-cellulose and Sephacryl S-300 column chromatographies. 3. 3. Mannose, galactose, g...

3. 3. Mannose, galactose, glucose, fucose and arabinose in different proportions were detected in the three macromolecules by gas-liquid chromatography. Also about 1% phosphorus was determined. Mannose and galactose constitute more than 85% of the total sugar in the two most abundant fractions. 4. 4. Two glycoconjugates with lipidic and protein components were isolated from the aqueous and phenolic phase respectively. Galactose, mannose, arabinose and glucosamine were determined in the sugar moiety. Long chain bases and fatty acids have been identified in alkaline hydrolysates. © 1984. Fil:de Lederkremer, R.M.
