In this communication we propose a different approach that provides a significant improvement over other methods on a much broader range of energies. We discuss its applicability in the case of negative ion photodetachment and in coincidence measurements of electron capture and loss to the continuum in atomic collisions. © 2003 Elsevier Science B.V.
