However, these bands cannot be explained as a result of the interaction between the incident light, the surface plasmons and the grooves. We present new evidence for the influence the surface roughness has on the formation of these anomalies. The evidence takes the form of the intensity distribution of the bands, their geometric form, and the correlation between the bands and both polarization components of the diffuse scattered light. © 1986 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
