Excellent agreement with the predictions of the impulse approximation (IA) is obtained. However, the use of a double-continuum wave function accounts for an asymmetry in the profile, in contrast with the symmetric peak predicted by the IA. Results for other two-electron systems are presented within the IA, and the high-[Formula Presented] scaling property of the profile is found. The different momentum regions of the profile are discussed in terms of the physical mechanism of double ionization. © 1998 The American Physical Society.
