Gel permeation chromatography of these products allows isolation of an homogeneous galactomannan-protein complex which was further purified by anion-exchange chromatography. The galactomannan has a medium degree of polymerization and a backbone similar to that of the classical galactomannans. The main difference with these polysaccharides lies in the side-chains which are attached to the backbone not only by (1 → 6)-linkages but also by (1 → 3)-linkages and which contain, on average, two galactose units, either (1 → 3), (1 → 6)-linked or (1 → 3), (1 → 3)-linked with α-d and β-d configurations, respectively. © 1986.
