Biosynthesis of withanolides in Acnistus breviflorus. Incorporation of labelled 24-methylenecholesterol

Feeding experiments with [24-14C] 24-methylenecholesterol and mixtures of this sterol and [7-3H] 24-methylenecholesterol were performed to study the biosynthesis of withanolides in the plant Acnistus breviflorus. The results indicate that the side chain of the sterol precursor should be broken betwe...

Sumario:Feeding experiments with [24-14C] 24-methylenecholesterol and mixtures of this sterol and [7-3H] 24-methylenecholesterol were performed to study the biosynthesis of withanolides in the plant Acnistus breviflorus. The results indicate that the side chain of the sterol precursor should be broken between C-24 and C-25 to give an intermediate which follows the biogenetic pathway into withaferin A, jaborosalactone A and jaborosalactone D. © 1994.
