Taca-Taca Alto porphyry copper deposit, province of Salta: Contributions to its knowledge

The Taca-Taca Alto porphyry copper deposit is located in western Puna, Salta Province, and is geneticaly related to an Oligocene volcanic sequence. Based on alteration-mineralization studies, three stages were recognized: 1. potasic alteration with magnetic-pyrrotite-pyrite-chalcopyrite-bornite-spha...

Based on alteration-mineralization studies, three stages were recognized: 1. potasic alteration with magnetic-pyrrotite-pyrite-chalcopyrite-bornite-sphalerite and propylitic alteration with pyrite; 2. phyllic alteration with pyrite-molybdenite; 3. supergenic alteration mainly with limonite, jarosite, sericite, cuprite, alunite, digenite and covellite. In the area K/Ar dating shows that the volcanic sequence was emplaced during the Eocene-Oligocene and that hydrothermal alteration took place between 33.6 + -0.5 and 30.5 + -0.5 Ma. Therefore, it is possible to correlate the Taca-Taca Alto deposit with the Paleogene porphyry copper mineralization belt in Chile, suggesting a widening of the magmatic arc during the Oligocene at this latitude. 2000 https://bibliotecadigital.exactas.uba.ar/collection/paper/document/paper_00044822_v55_n1-2_p125_Rubinstein http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12110/paper_00044822_v55_n1-2_p125_Rubinstein
