It also addresses potential mechanisms for resolving conflicts, classifying them based on whether the solution arises from the parties involved or from a third party. Each mechanism is briefly described –self-defense, self-composition, third-party defense, judicial process, and arbitration–, with an explanation of its functioning. Additionally, the article evaluates the potential advantages and disadvantages of these conflict resolution methods, both for the parties involved and for the society in which they occur. El presente artículo parte de analizar y conceptualizar al conflicto en un sentido amplio, en tanto relación social susceptible de ser regulada por el Derecho. Además, aborda sus mecanismos de solución, clasificándolos teniendo en consideración si la solución emana de las propias partes del conflicto o de un tercero, y los describe brevemente a cada uno en particular –autodefensa, autocomposición, defensa de un tercero, proceso judicial y proceso arbitral–, explicando su funcionamiento. Asimismo, evalúa cuáles son las posibles ventajas y desventajas de estos métodos de resolución de conflictos, no solo para las partes involucradas en el mismo sino también para la sociedad en la que se desarrollan.
