Se abordan las contradicciones de los sistemas de medición y de evaluación sobre la salud de las democracias, y se contrastan estos elementos con aquellos que llamamos «condiciones de la democracia». Se estudian tres: las condiciones materiales de la democracia, las condiciones estructurales de la voluntad popular y el tiempo libre como condición para la convivencia social. Finalmente, se ponen en perspectiva latinoamericana y caribeña estos elementos. This article explores the foundational components and requirements of democracy to discern which aspects of democracy are affected during periods of crisis. It delves into the challenges of assessing the health of democracies and compares these with the “conditions of democracy.” Three specific conditions are analyzed: the material conditions necessary for democracy to function, the underlying structures that support the will of the people (sovereignty), and leisure time as a time for socializing.
