Este artículo analiza la presencia de la brecha de género en el proceso de asignación de subvenciones públicas para la actividad científica y tecnológica –el efecto Matilda– en Argentina. El enfoque empírico se basa en el programa de Proyectos de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (PICT) de Argentina, la principal subvención pública nacional para proyectos científicos y tecnológicos, para el período 2003-2015. Se verifican dos manifestaciones del efecto Matilda. En primer lugar, las barreras de entrada, ya que las investigadoras tienen menores probabilidades de ser seleccionadas por primera vez que sus homólogos masculinos. Luego, también se demuestran las barreras de persistencia, dado que ser premiado cuando se financió inmediatamente antes solo es significativo entre los investigadores masculinos. La brecha es aún mayor para el caso de los campos de la ciencia, la tecnología, la ingeniería y las matemáticas. La naturaleza acumulativa del efecto Matilda exige acciones públicas deliberadas para reducir la brecha, ya que los instrumentos horizontales tienden a aumentar los sesgos con el tiempo. This article analyses the presence of the gender gap in the process of allocation of public grants for science and technology activity – the Matilda effect – in Argentina. The empirical approach is based on the Argentinean Scientific and Technological Research Projects programme (in Spanish PICT), the main national public grant for scientific and technological projects, for the period 2003–2015. Two manifestations of the Matilda effect are verified. First, entry barriers since female researchers have lower probabilities of being selected for the first time than their male counterparts. Then, persistency barriers are also demonstrated, given that being awarded when funded immediately before is only significant among male researchers. The gap is even larger for the case of science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields of science. The cumulative nature of the Matilda effect calls for deliberated public actions to reduce the gap since horizontal instruments tend to increase the biases over time. Este artigo analisa a presença da disparidade de gênero no processo de alocação de verbas públicas para atividades científicas e tecnológicas – o efeito Matilda – na Argentina. A abordagem empírica baseia-se no Programa de Projetos de Pesquisa Científica e Tecnológica da Argentina (PICT), o principal programa nacional de financiamento público para projetos científicos e tecnológicos, para o período de 2003 a 2015. Duas manifestações do efeito Matilda são verificadas. Primeiro, barreiras de entrada, visto que pesquisadoras têm menor probabilidade de serem selecionadas pela primeira vez do que seus colegas homens. Em seguida, demonstram-se também barreiras de persistência, uma vez que a concessão de verbas quando imediatamente financiadas é significativa apenas entre pesquisadores homens. A disparidade é ainda maior no caso das áreas de ciência, tecnologia, engenharia e matemática.
