Mi objetivo es describir la posición de Psathas sobre la etnometodología como una forma de hacer sociología fenomenológica. Sobre esto, discrepó con otros que argumentaban que la etnometodología no es una sociología fenomenológica en absoluto. Su afirmación era que la etnometodología es parte del movimiento fenomenológico. En esta disputa, ofreció dos tipos de argumentos. Por un lado, documentó el fuerte trasfondo fenomenológico de las ideas de Garfinkel. Por otro lado, encontró en las propias palabras de Garfinkel expresiones de agradecimiento a Husserl, Gurwitsch y Schutz, entre otros fenomenólogos. Sin embargo, habiendo demostrado que existía una estrecha relación de Garfinkel con la etnometodología, Psathas pasó a demostrar que Garfinkel convirtió las ideas fenomenológicas en algo nuevo; en particular, convirtió la fenomenología en una ciencia experimental que se ocupa de la actitud natural. Esta es una contribución innovadora que Psathas apreció y comprendió como nadie más. My aim is to depict Psathas’s position on ethnomethodology as a way of doing phenomenological sociology. On this, he contested with others who argued that ethnomethodology is not a phenomenological sociology at all. His claim was that ethnomethodology is a part of the phenomenological movement. In this dispute, he offered two kinds of arguments. On the one hand, he documented the strong phenomenological background of Garfinkel’s ideas. On the other hand, he found in Garfinkel’s own words expressions of gratitude to Husserl, Gurwitsch, and Schutz, among other phenomenologists. However, having proved that there was a close relation of Garfinkel with ethnomethodology, Psathas went on to show that Garfinkel turned phenomenological ideas into something new; in particular, he turned phenomenology into an experimental science dealing with the natural attitude. This is a groundbreaking contribution that Psathas appreciated and comprehended as no one else. Meu objetivo é retratar a posição de Psathas sobre a etnometodologia como uma forma de fazer sociologia fenomenológica. Sobre isso, ele contestou outros que argumentavam que a etnometodologia não é de forma alguma uma sociologia fenomenológica. Sua afirmação era que a etnometodologia faz parte do movimento fenomenológico. Nessa disputa, ele apresentou dois tipos de argumentos. Por um lado, documentou o forte contexto fenomenológico das ideias de Garfinkel. Por outro lado, encontrou nas próprias palavras de Garfinkel expressões de gratidão a Husserl, Gurwitsch e Schutz, entre outros fenomenólogos. Contudo, tendo provado que havia uma estreita relação de Garfinkel com a etnometodologia, Psathas passou a mostrar que Garfinkel transformou as ideias fenomenológicas em algo novo; em particular, ele transformou a fenomenologia em uma ciência experimental que trata da atitude natural.
