Between December 16 and 17, 2023, a series of convective events occurred over the central region of Argentina, predominantly in the province of Buenos Aires. The most severe impacts occurred in the city of Bahia Blanca and the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, leaving numerous fatalities, injuries and extensive damage. This Technical Note describes the event in its different stages, from its prediction, through its monitoring by means of conventional observations and remote sensing, to damage assessment. Emphasis is placed on the study of the predictability of the event and a description of the use of numerical models by forecasters. This study, with its attempt to analyze the event from many different perspectives, is an opportunity to capture the challenges faced by forecasters during extreme events. Entre el 16 y 17 de diciembre de 2023 una serie de eventos convectivos tuvieron lugar sobre la región central del país, predominantemente en la provincia de Buenos Aires. Los impactos más graves se produjeron en la ciudad de Bahía Blanca y el área metropolitana de Buenos Aires, dejando numerosas víctimas fatales, heridos y amplios daños. Esta Nota Técnica describe el evento en sus diferentes estadios, desde la predicción, pasando por su monitoreo a través de observaciones convencionales y sensores remotos, hasta la evaluación de los daños. Particularmente, se destaca el esfuerzo puesto en el estudio de predictibilidad del evento y la discusión sobre el uso de los modelos numéricos por los pronosticadores.
