Las instituciones educativas han jugado distintos roles a lo largo de la historia. Sin embargo, tendemos a naturalizar los roles dominantes de cada período, tanto olvidando las situaciones más antiguas como dificultando la imaginación de los cambios por venir. Si los lazos sociales se transforman y si también se transforman los modos de conocimiento, es dable esperar que las instituciones educativas también requieran sufrir transformaciones e incluso que sus funciones, aun siendo las mismas instituciones, se vuelvan totalmente diferentes a lo largo del tiempo. La pandemia del COVID-19 introdujo una serie de irrupciones obligadas por una situación sanitaria extrema: el riesgo de un virus nuevo y desconocido para el conjunto de la población y el rol específico del espacio escolar como vector fundamental de contagio de enfermedades respiratorias. A partir de ello se decidió intentar virtualizar el funcionamiento educativo. Pero dicha irrupción puso en verdad sobre la mesa interrogantes que se venían incubando desde hace décadas. Una pregunta que se abre en este nuevo período es si seremos capaces de asumir dichos interrogantes en momentos en los que parece restablecerse una normalidad que abjura y reniega de la experiencia vivida. Educational institutions have played different roles throughout history. However, we tend to naturalize the dominant roles of each period, both forgetting the oldest situations and making it difficult to imagine the changes to come. If social ties are transformed and if the modes of knowledge are also transformed, it is possible to expect that educational institutions will also require transformations and even that their functions (even though they are the same institutions) will become totally different over time. The COVID-19 pandemic introduced a series of forced outbreaks due to an extreme health situation: the risk of a new and unknown virus for the population as a whole and the specific role of the school space as a fundamental vector of contagion of respiratory diseases. From this it was decided to try to “virtualize” the educational operation. But this irruption really put on the table questions that had been incubating for decades.
