Sumario:The work was developed in the Formosa province, Argentina, between 2009 and 2014. The aim was to characterize local criollo sheep in the phaneroptical, morphometric and fleece traits aspects, and as for production systems. By simple random sampling, 225 adults of both sexes, were phenotypically evaluated through ten qualitative characters, fourteen zoometric quantitative traits and nine indices. Frequency tables and X2 test, descriptive statistics and means were compared by sex with ANOVA, and Pearson correlations between all zoometric measures were established. The re-sults defined a heightened degree of morphostructural harmony because most CV did not ex-ceed 15 percent. ANOVA showed significant differences in favor of males in the 14 measurements. The zoo-metric indices were examined through descriptive and ANOVA for comparing adjusted aver-ages between sex; all of them resulted significantly different. Most correlations were positive and significant. While coloring parameters were quite varia-ble, there was a significant degree of uniformity which shows little influence of exotic breeds. Production systems are mixed, with low use of technology and the responsibility of native rural populations; wool is used by indigenous women. Fleece characters belong to the double-coat type, typical of environmental animals and with ideal properties for handcrafted fabrics.
