A questionnaire was administered through the Google Forms platform to undergraduate students at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Cuenca to assess knowledge level and attitudes towards medical emergencies using 12 multiple-choice questions and 1 open-ended question. Of the participants, 76.2% were female. A notable difference was found between medium-high and high socioeconomic levels with the highest scores (p=0.005). Fourth-year students obtained lower scores compared to third- and fifth-year students. Scores increased progressively throughout the years of academic training, with fifth-year students predominantly achieving excellent ratings. Overall, most students obtained fair scores; therefore, implementation of a course addressing these topics prior to clinical practice is recommended.

Las emergencias médicas son frecuentes en la atención odontológica. No existen estudios previos que evalúen el manejo de emergencias médicas en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca, Ecuador. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el nivel de conocimientos y actitudes sobre emergencias médicas en los estudiantes de pregrado de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca, comparando los resultados entre estudiantes con experiencia clínica (años superiores) y aquellos con formación predominantemente teórica (años iniciales), conjuntamente con variables demográficas (edad, nivel económico, sexo) para determinar la necesidad de integrar o reforzar una cátedra específica sobre este tema en etapas tempranas durante la formación académica. Se realizó un formulario a través de la plataforma de Google Forms a estudiantes de pregrado de la facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca para evaluar el nivel de conocimientos y actitudes frente a emergencias médicas con 12 preguntas de opción múltiple y 1 abierta. El 76,2% de los participantes fueron mujeres. Existió una notable diferencia entre el nivel económico medio-alto y alto con los mejores puntajes (p=0.005). Los estudiantes de cuarto año tienen un bajo puntaje comparado con los de tercer y quinto año. Las calificaciones aumentaron conforme pasaron los años de formación académica, siendo los de quinto año que, en su mayoría, destacaron con una calificación excelente. En su mayoría, los estudiantes obtuvieron una calificación regular, por lo que se recomienda una cátedra que aborde estos temas antes de la atención clínica. Não existem estudos prévios que avaliem o manejo de emergências médicas na Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade de Cuenca, Equador. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o nível de conhecimento e atitudes sobre emergências médicas em estudantes de graduação da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade de Cuenca, comparando os resultados entre estudantes com experiência clínica (anos avançados) e aqueles com formação predominantemente teórica (anos iniciais), juntamente com variáveis demográficas (idade, nível econômico, sexo) a fim de determinar a necessidade de integrar ou reforçar uma disciplina específica sobre o tema nas etapas iniciais da formação acadêmica. Aplicou-se um formulário por meio da plataforma Google Forms aos estudantes de graduação da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade de Cuenca para avaliar o nível de conhecimento e atitudes frente a emergências médicas composto por 12 perguntas de múltipla escolha e uma aberta. Dos participantes, 76,2% eram mulheres. Observou-se diferença significativa entre os níveis econômico médio-alto e alto, associados aos melhores desempenhos (p=0,005). Os estudantes do quarto ano obtiveram uma pontuações inferiores às dos estudantes do terceiro e quintos anos. As notas aumentaram progressivamente conforme avançaram os anos de formação acadêmica, sendo os estudantes do quinto ano aqueles que majoritariamente alcançaram desempenho excelente. Em geral, os estudantes obtiveram uma pontuação regular, motivo pelo qual se recomenda incluir uma disciplina que aborde esses temas antes do início da prática clínica.
