There, indigenous women appear in different modalities, from the idealized “Indian”, appropiated by the discourse of the nation, to the “wild woman”, narrated in terms of animalization. The woman-as-other is configured as the counterpart of a central femininity that results from multiple appropriations of the model of “modern woman”. This paper is divided into two parts: in the first instance, the conformation in PU of an image of modern woman will be investigated. In the second part, the representation of the woman-other in two travel chronicles with inhabitants of the indigenous communities of Argentina and Chile.
