The woman-as-other is configured as the counterpart of a central femininity that results from multiple appropriations of the model of “modern woman”. This paper is divided into two parts: in the first instance, the conformation in PU of an image of modern woman will be investigated. In the second part, the representation of the woman-other in two travel chronicles with inhabitants of the indigenous communities of Argentina and Chile. El objetivo del trabajo será analizar la otredad femenina en crónicas de viaje de Plus Ultra (PU). Allí, las mujeres originarias aparecen con distintas modalidades, desde la “india” idealizada, incorporable al discurso de la nación, hasta la mujer salvaje, narrada en términos de animalización. La mujer-otra se configura como contraparte de una feminidad central que resulta de múltiples apropiaciones del modelo de “mujer moderna”. Este artículo se divide en dos partes: en una primera instancia, se indagará la conformación en PU de una imagen de mujer moderna. En la segunda parte, la representación de la mujer-otra en dos crónicas de viajes con habitantes de las comunidades originarias de Argentina y Chile. Universidad Nacional del Nordeste.
