| Sumario: | This article examines Otto Neurath’s ideas on the democratization of urban planning, developed through his involvement in planning processes in Vienna (Austria) in the early 1920s and in Bilston (United Kingdom) in the mid-1940s. It seeks to show that Neurath advocates for a humanist, pluralistic, democratic, and anti-technocratic model of urban planning, in which education and open access to knowledge play a central role. To achieve this aim, the study adopts a historical systematic reconstruction methodology which enables an understanding of Neurath’s model within its historical and intellectual context and, at the same time, allows it to be seen as a meaningful contribution to current debates and reflections on urban planning. |
