Sumario:Psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology (PNIE) investigates the intricate interplay among the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems, alongside an individual's psychological state, and how these interactions influencehealth and disease processes. Within dentistry, these interactions hold significant clinical implications for wound healing, orofacial pain, dental anxiety, temporomandibular dysfunctions, periodontal disease, and various functional stomatological pathologies. This review article explores the scientific evidence linking chronic stress and neuroendocrine dysfunctions to alterations in oral homeostasis. It highlights the importance of salivary biomarkers and emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary approaches. The integration of clinical tools such as mind-body techniques, therapeutic communication strategies, and timely referral to mental health professionals is proposed as part of an integrative dental care model. Understanding psychoneuroimmune mechanisms in the oral environment allows for improved prognosis of multiple pathologies and optimizes the patient's experience during dental visits.
