The concept of telecoupling aims to represent such relationships and multi-scalar nature. This article analyzes three telecoupling processes linked to transformations in the productive landscape of Cajón district, Costa Rica, characterized by its dependence on agricultural activities and its buffering role for protected areas. A multitemporal analysis of satellite imagery was applied, complemented by the systematic application of the telecoupling framework. Significant landscape change was identified related to the pineapple telecoupling. The telecoupling associated with coffee remains, although weakened by climate-related and market dynamics. An important change was also observed in relation to sugarcane cultivation, though it reflects a more domestic form of telecoupling. This study represents one of the first explicit applications of the telecoupling framework in Costa Rica and helps understand rural transformations for territorial planning.
