Sumario:This article explores an experience in participatory design and management of public space in an informal settlement in Mar del Plata, Argentina, within the framework of public policy. This work, framed as research and development, contributes to knowledge of management strategies for local governments with an innovative component in the forms of connection between the community, public policy, scientific and academic actors, and social organizations, highlighting the importance of community participation in the configuration of urban space. Methodologically, a qualitative and ethnographic approach to participatory action research is adopted. Techniques such as photographic recording, aerial photos, and analysis of experiences through participant observation are employed. Inserted in a context of low-income urban development, the project demonstrates the potential of participatory design within the framework of public policy, with an intersectoral and interinstitutional approach, with the aim of reflecting on how these types of experiences can contribute to shaping more inclusive intervention models.
